Orbital Sciences Launches Military Satellite
Orbital Sciences Corp. said Sept. 23 it launched a satellite for the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency aboard a Minotaur 1 rocket.
The rocket was launched Sept. 22 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., at 10:25 p.m. EDT. The satellite, designated STP-R1, was inserted into its target orbit of about 300 kilometers above the Earth. Details on the satellite were not disclosed.
This was the forth successful launch of the Minotaur 1 space launch vehicle. The Minotaur 1 is a combination of Minuteman ICBM and Orbital Pegasus hardware reserved for use by the Air Force.
