Harris Corp. Demonstrates Military Satellite Antenna

Harris Corp. completed field demonstrations of a high-speed satellite antenna feed prototype, the company announced Sept. 15.

The feed prototype achieved data rates up to 105 megabits per second using a modified, Harris-built Lightweight High Gain X-band Antenna and a modified AN/TSC-85C terminal operating over the Xtar-Eur commercial X-band satellite, which was launched in February.

“The technologies showcased during the Xtar-Eur demonstrations represent a quantum leap in military satellite communications capabilities for our warfighters,” Dennis Evanchik, LHGXA project manager for the U.S. Army, said in a statement.

The X-band polarization feed can be installed on existing LHGXA antennas and will be the standard offering on Harris’new tactical satellite antenna, the Large Aperture Multiband Deployable Antenna.
