XM, NHL Ink $100 Million Deal
XM Satellite Radio and the National Hockey League (NHL) announced Sept. 12 a 10-year, $100 million agreement that will make XM the exclusive satellite radio network of the NHL beginning in the 2007-2008 season. XM will begin broadcasting games this season.
As part of the agreement, XM will provide live play-by-play coverage for more than 1,000 games per season and create dedicated channel featuring original programming that will focus on all aspects of hockey. XM said the NHL coverage would be available in Canada through its partnership with Canadian Satellite Radio.
