SpaceX introduced Sept. 8 its new launch vehicle, the Falcon 9, designed to compete with heavy-lift launch vehicles.

In its heavy configuration, the Falcon 9 will be capable of lofting up to 25,000 kilograms to low earth orbit, while the medium configuration will carry about 9,500 kilograms to low earth orbit. The medium-class vehicle will be priced at $27 million per flight, while the heavy-lift version will cost $35 million. Prices include all launch range and third party insurance costs, SpaceX said.
