SES Americom Launches New IPTV Via Satellite Service
SES Americom unveiled Sept. 7 its IP Prime service, which the company described as a centralized, satellite delivered Internet protocol television (IPTV) distribution solution that will enable telecommunications providers to bundle traditional standard and high-definition television programming with their voice and broadband service.
IP Prime will originate from the SES Americom IPTV Broadcast center in Vernon Valley, N.J., where video and audio will be received and processed for distribution via satellite and fiber to telcos video hubs throughout the United States.
SES Americom tapped Scientific-Atlanta to provide an MPEG-4 encoding system for IP Prime network. Globecomm Systems will provide the overall design and integration services as well as the major components for the IPTV broadcast distribution center, which includes systems for RF and program acquisition, MPEG-4 compression and uplinking services.
