Wildblue Communications Inc. said Aug. 23 David Leonard will take over as the company’s CEO effective Sept. 1.

Co-founder and current CEO Tom Moore is stepping down because he has “accomplished his objectives at Wildblue’s helm,” the company said. Moore will remain a member of Wildblue’s board of directors and a shareholder. “My contribution has always been in formulating ambitious dreams and starting things from scratch,” Moore said in a statement. “Wildblue now needs a world-class operating CEO to drive the company to the next level of success.”

Leonard comes to Wildblue with more than 25 years of experience in media and telecommunications. Most recently, he served as president of Liberty Global Inc.‘s Latin America division. Prior to that, he was founder and CEO of Velocom Inc., a competitive local exchange carrier in Latin America.
