Canadian Satellite Radio Surpasses 3,000 Advanced Signups
Canadian Satellite Radio (CSR) has signed up more than 3,000 customers during pre-service registration efforts, the company announced Aug. 24. Street teams conducted the pre-registration during the Toronto Molson Indy and Dark Knights Nationals race event in Markham, Ontario, Canada, as well as through the CSR Web site.
“Thousands of Canadians have committed to the benefits of our satellite radio offering,” Stephen Tapp, CSR’s president and COO, said in a statement. “The diversity, choice and portability are obviously appealing to a broad spectrum of the population. With French, English and multilingual content, we aim to develop our programming to please the cross- section of rural and urban Canadians who will have the opportunity to receive satellite radio broadcast in their language of choice, anywhere in the country.”
CSR, which will use XM Satellite Radio technology, received permission from the Canadian government in June to launch subscription radio services in Canada along with Sirius Canada. CSR expects to launch its service before the end of 2005, though the Canadian government is weighing protests of the licenses from a number of Canadian companies and interest groups.
