MDU Communications International Inc., a provider of DirecTV satellite television programming, high-speed Internet and other communications services to residential multi-dwelling units, installed its first “single wire” installation in a luxury apartment complex in New York City.

Prior to the development of the single wire technology, apartment and condominium buildings required the use of several wires or cables to deliver DirecTV programming to individual units, which led to increased installation costs and limited service options. The new technology, developed by DirecTV, combines multiple signals on a single wire, providing TV programming to multiple set-top boxes and digital video recorders. The new technology also allows for service upgrades.
