Airtel Taps ViaSat For Broadband Satellite Services In India
In its second India-related announcement in as many days, ViaSat Inc. announced Aug. 17 it is supplying a Linkstar broadband network to Airtel Enterprise Services for shared- hub satellite communications services in India. Airtel is the enterprise arm of Indian telecom group Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd.
Airtel is planning to use the Linkstar network to offer a range of services, including point-of-sale data to broadband private networks and Internet access. The Airtel network includes a Linkstar hub installation in Bangalore and an expected delivery of 5,000 remote VSATs during the first year of the contract. Ku-band transponders on the SES Americom AAP-1 satellite will carry the network traffic.
Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
ViaSat announced Aug. 16 that it is supplying a Linkstar broadband network-to-network service provider HCL Comnet Ltd, a subsidiary of HCL Technologies, for shared hub network services in India.
