Digital Angel announced late last week that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration approved its Outerlink subsidiary’s new satellite radio transceiver, the Commpoint 3 Satcom Data Terminal. The terminal received a Supplemental Type Certificate for use on Bell 206 and 206L series helicopters.

The terminal can track a variety of international commercial and military aircraft and ground vehicles in any weather condition. The unit incorporates a feature that enables it to operate with communications satellites on a global basis. Digital Angel said this capability would facilitate expansion of communication coverage from the existing North American service area to transoceanic and other continents, eventually providing global capability for providing real-time mobile asset management capabilities for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and military market.

The CP3 will be commercially available in the fourth quarter.
