China is planning to launch a lunar probe in 2007, according to a report from the Xinhua news agency.

The Aug. 9 report cited an official from the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp., which is designing the satellite, as saying the lunar probe will set the stage for future missions that involve sending a vehicle to the Moon to conduct scientific observations.
