Gizmondo Europe Ltd. recently announced it is delaying the launch of its Gizmondo multi-entertainment handheld device in North America from Aug. 11 to an unspecified date closer to Christmas.

Gizmondo Europe, a subsidiary of Tiger Telematics Inc., cited delays in development of two U.S.-specific software programs, a satellite navigation package that uses GPS as well as an as yet unnamed game title, which the company described as “highly significant.”

Tiger Telematics CEO Michael Carrender said the company is looking for 500,000 Gizmondo units to be available in the fourth quarter and said it will have a release date, along with pricing and other retail launch information, within the next two weeks
