More than half of Quebec’s citizens believe the advent of satellite radio services will have a positive impact on Canada’s French culture, according to a survey performed on behalf of Canadian Satellite Radio (CSR).

The survey, conducted by Omnitel Omnibus from July 14 through July 19, surveyed residents of Quebec to gauge their interest levels in and perceptions of satellite radio service, CSR said.

Only 5 percent of residents think that satellite radio services would have a negative effect, the survey claims, while 66 percent would like to be able to listen to French radio stations when they travel outside of Quebec.

“CSR is eager to launch our service and bring Quebecers the French content they are asking for,” André DiCesare, French talent and industry relations for CSR, said in a statement. “By investing in French artists, French programming and French talent development, CSR hopes to bring Quebec culture the exposure it deserves.”

CSR, which will use XM Satellite Radio technology, received permission from the Canadian government in June to launch subscription radio services in Canada along with Sirius Canada. Neither company has set a launch date for its service and the Canadian government is weighing protests of the licenses from a number of Canadian companies and interest groups.
