With many mobile telecom operators having begun trials (or in the case of TU Media in Korea, launched commercial service), SES Global subsidiaries SES Americom and SES Astra entered the market, announcing agreements to allow MobiTV to deliver content using SES’ satellite-based distribution platforms.

As part of the multi-year, multi-site agreement, MobiTV is leasing equipment, co-location space, Internet protocol transport, remote support and downlink services from SES in order to deliver news, sports and entertainment television to mobile phone customers in Canada, Europe and Latin America.

“MobiTV shares the SES mission of meeting the growing demand for on-the-go information and entertainment through managed solutions for mobile television,” Orlando Skeleton, vice president of enterprise solutions for SES Americom said in a statement.
