Nera Gains Second BGAN Contract
Nera Satcom announced its second order for broadband satellite terminals for Inmarsat’s BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) service in a matter of days. The MVS Group ordered 1,000 broadband satellite terminals for BGAN service from Nera Satcom, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nera. A significant proportion of these terminals will be going to Russia.
Peter Liberi, Vice President of MVS Group said, “We see a large market potential for the world’s first mobile broadband satellite communications service in Russia.”
The BGAN service is scheduled for availability from the fourth quarter of 2005 and will enable users to access both voice and data communications simultaneously from a single satellite terminal.
Nera Satcom announced last week that GMPCS ordered 1,000 BGAN terminals.
