Iridium Satellite LLC had about 127,000 voice and data subscribers as of June 30, a 20 percent increase compared to its number of subscribers at the same time last year and an 11 percent increase from its year end 2004 subscriber numbers, the company reported Aug. 1.

Iridium reported a 27 percent increase in total revenues for the first half of 2005, compared to the first half of 2004. The company did not report specific financial numbers, which is typical for a privately held company.

“Through the first six months of the year, Iridium has met or exceeded its targets for subscribers, revenues and profitability,” Iridium Chairman and CEO Carmen Lloyd said in a statement. “We are on track with our business plan for the network, which places emphasis on adding integrated voice and data subscribers in key vertical markets. In particular, we expect to see continued strong demand for…services by our maritime, aviation and defense customers.” Lloyd added the company’s commercial subscriber base has grown to four times the size of its defense subscriber base.
