GOES-N Launch Delayed

The launch of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-N (GOES-N) has been delayed indefinitely due to an unnamed issue with the satellite, NASA announced July 28. When rescheduled, the satellite will be launched into orbit on a Boeing Delta 4 rocket.

GOES-N had been scheduled for a July 29 launch. Satellite manufacturer Boeing, NASA and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are working on a new launch date, NASA said.

GOES-N will provide more accurate prediction and tracking of severe storms and other weather phenomena, resulting in earlier and more precise warnings to the public.
