Viasat Announces Strong Subscriber Increases
Viasat Broadcasting reached the 700,000 mark for direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television customers in the Nordic and Baltic regions, the company announced. Viasat added 16,000 new subscribers during the second quarter, compared to the 5,000 subscribers the company added during the same period a year ago.
Viasat credits the strong increases in subscribers to the absence of piracy since the company installed a new conditional access system from NDS, as well the addition of new channels, higher subsidies and aggressive marketing campaigns to promote its channel offerings.
Viasat is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Modern Times Group.
