O.J. Simpson Ordered To Pay $25,000 For Stealing DirecTV Programming
A U.S. District Court judge in the Southern District of Florida ordered O.J. Simpson to pay DirecTV $25,000 in damages, plus attorneys’ fees and cost for stealing DirecTV direct-to-home satellite television programming.
Judge Joan Lenard awarded damages in the case after granting DirecTV’s motion for summary judgment in a civil lawsuit filed by DirecTV. The suit followed a December 2001 raid on Simpson’s Miami home, when two illegal devices called bootloaders were seized. The devices can intercept DirecTV programming without proper authorization. Simpson admitted the devices were installed in his home for the purpose of stealing DirecTV programming.
