Boeing‘s Launch and Orbital Systems business, part of the company’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) segment, posted an operating profit of $29 million in the second quarter of 2005, Boeing reported July 27. The business rebounded from a $50 million operating loss in the same period in 2004.

Revenue in launch and orbital systems improved 7 percent to $722 million. While operating margins improved to 4 percent due to higher revenue and improved performance in the commercial satellite sector, Boeing said.

Individual results for Connexion were not disclosed.

Overall, Boeing reported earnings of $566 million in the second quarter of 2005 on revenue of $15 billion, compared to a profit of $607 million on revenue of $13.1 billion in the same period a year ago. Boeing attributed the decline in profit to non-cash charges related to the sale of some of the company’s commercial aviation operations.
