Russia’s state-owned satellite manufacturing companies may be consolidated under a single entity, according to press reports.

Russia’s 10 satellite manufacturers would each become a subsidiary of the new corporation while retaining independent legal status under a plan endorsed by the government’s defense industry commission July 15, according to the Russian news agency Novosti. The government has not made an official comment.

Reshetnikov Applied Mechanics, which manufactures about 70 percent of Russia’s communication satellites, would lead the new company, according to a Reshetnikov spokesman.
