Intelsat Donates Capacity To Live 8
Intelsat said June 30 it is donating satellite capacity to facilitate the broadcast of five of the Live 8 concerts, though Intelsat spokeswoman Jodi Katz told Satellite Today that Intelsat could provide service to more locations.
At press time, Intelsat, along with Siemens Communications, will provide Live 8 concert programming to dozens of broadcast rights-holders around the globe from the concerts originating from London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Philadelphia.
Live 8, billed as a sequel to 1985’s Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia, is a series of free concerts around the world being held on the eve of the G8 summit to raise awareness of Third world debt. Other cities hosting concerts include Tokyo, Moscow, Johannesburg and Barrie, Ontario.
