Air Force Awards GPS Contract To Rockwell Collins
Rockwell Collins Government Systems received a $45.3 million contract from the U.S. Air Force June 22 to provide GPS receivers for foreign military sales to Germany, France, Canada and Australia, the Air Force said.
Under a production option from a previous award, Rockwell Collins will produce 19,659
Defense Advanced GPS receivers and accessories. The handheld receiver incorporates next-generation security features to prevent jamming of the navigation signal, the Air Force said.
Separately, Rockwell Collins unveiled its new Dead Reckoning Augmented GPS Navigation System, which enables soldiers to receive GPS signals in areas where the service can be weak or denied, such as urban environments and dense foliage.
The receivers integrate Rockwell’s GPS technology with inertial sensor technology developed by Vectronix AG of Heerbrugg, Switzerland. The inertial sensors track movement from the last confirmed position until the GPS signal is restored to provide dismounted troops with continuous position information.
