Panamsat will supply satellite-based Internet access to New Caledonia, Panamsat announced June 14.

Under the contract from the Office des Postes et Telecommunications (OPT)New Caledonia, Panamsat’s PAS-2 satellite will provide Internet access as well as a connection to the U.S. Internet backbone and teleport uplink and downlink services under the Spotbytes service. The contract extends a previous relationship between the two organizations dating back to 1999.

“Our experience with Panamsat has always been excellent, given the company’s flexibility, reliability and reach,” Jean-Yves Ollivaud, general manager of OPT New Caledonia, said in a statement. “We decided to broaden our relationship by signing on for a much larger Spotbytes service.”
