Sirius Satellite Radio signed an agreement with Sprint to make select Sirius channels available to Sprint PCS Vision customers, Sirius announced June 14. Music channels under evaluation by Sprint include new hits, classic rock, hip-hop, country, blues, soul, jazz and Broadway tunes. Specifics on this deal, including price, will be announced later this year.

“We are excited about this venture with Sprint,” Sirius President of Entertainment and Sports Scott Greenstein said in a statement. “One of our goals is to make this unique content available to as many Sprint PCS Vision customers as we can over as many multimedia devices as possible.”

Separately, Sirius announced June 13 that it developed a new advanced proprietary technology, which it said will initially increase the company’s total network capacity by about 25 percent within its existing digital transmission system. The technology, known as hierarchical modulation, will allow Sirius to offer additional audio channels, as well as advanced services such as data and video, without affecting the quality of its broadcasts.
