Stratos Global Corp. will move its Regional Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service to the Inmarsat-4 F1 satellite July 9, Stratos announced. The move will provide customers with data speeds of up to 144 kilobits per second and extend the service’s coverage.

New BGAN terminals that could increase the speed of the service to nearly 500 kbps as well as provide voice telephony and other features will be introduced in late 2005, Stratos said. BGAN service is scheduled for extension to North and South America in early 2006.
