New Skies Satellites said June 13 it signed an agreement with Malaysia’s Smart Digital Communications to deliver two-way broadband Internet transmissions in Southeast Asia via the NSS-6 satellite.
Using an unspecified number of transponders on NSS-6, Smart will offer Ku-band two-way broadband satellite service to support applications such as Internet access, virtual private networks, file transfer, distance learning and voice of Internet protocol. The initial contracted capacity on NSS-6 gives Smart the ability to deploy its ViaSat Surfbeam DOCSIS network for as many as 10,000 remote terminals.
