Orbital Sciences Corp. delivered its 500th space and launch system when it delivered a pair of Vandal short-rang target vehicles to the U.S. Navy June 2. , Orbital announced. The company has averaged one product delivery to customers every 17 days since 1982.

“As one of only a handful of successful companies in the space and missiles industry born in the last several decades, Orbital’s 500th delivery is a special milestone for all those employees, past and present, who have contributed so much to meeting our customers’ needs,” said David Thompson, Orbital’s co-founder, chairman and CEO.

Orbital has, however, come under scrutiny by the Department of Defense for contracting procedures on certain government launch vehicle programs. As of date, no definitive conclusions have surfaced.
