Nera, a supplier of satellite communications equipment, received approval from the U.S. government to provide its open standards DVB-RCS (Digital Video Broadcast – Return Channel Satellite) technology for two-way broadband over satellite systems for the U.S. military.

The U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency placed Nera’s system on a shortlist of qualified products, which is responsible for implementing and supporting net-centric solutions for the domestic and global operations of the U.S. government and the Department of Defense, in particular.

“Given their influence on the U.S. and global defense market, DISA’s recommendation of the DVB-RCS standard and approval of the Nera Satlink represents a significant market opportunity for Nera,” Bjørn Platou, senior vice president, sales and marketing at Nera, said.
