Cablevision Systems Corp. halted its contract with Lockheed Martin for satellites intended to broadcast high-definition television, the company said in a June 6 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Cablevision’s Rainbow DBS subsidiary signed a contract last November with Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems for up to five Ka-band satellites that would be used with the Voom satellite television service.

Cablevision announced in April it would shut down the satellite television distribution business of Rainbow DBS and suspended work on the satellite-manufacturing contract June 1. Cablevision expects to pay between $100 million and $130 million to shut down Rainbow DBS operations, costs that should be covered by the proceeds from the sale of the Rainbow 1 satellite to Echostar for $200 million, Cablevision said.
