Global Crossing Expands Capabilities Provided To Loral Skynet
Global Crossing announced May 24 a new agreement under which Loral Skynet will be able to more easily reach locations outside its satellite network.
Using Global Crossing’s iMPLS service, the two companies are interconnecting at Loral Skynet’s terrestrial points of presence in San Jose, Calif., Ashburn, Va. and Munich, Germany. The network is then directly extended to multiple earth stations that provide satellite and terrestrial connectivity to Loral Skynet customers in North and Latin America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
“Our customers demand seamless, converged communications with end-to-end quality of service virtually anywhere in the world,” Jon Kirchner, vice president of global marketing for Loral Skynet, said in a statement. “This agreement supports Skynet’s leadership in converged IP services over satellite, through SkyReach, and allows us to serve new markets cost-effectively, while retaining our service features and delivering a totally transparent customer experience.”
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
