Falling Sales Lead To First Quarter Loss For Norsat International

Norsat International Inc. lost 1.2 million Canadian dollars ($970,000) in its 2005 first quarter as sales slipped 42 percent from the same period in 2004, Norsat reported May 10. For its first quarter last year, the company posted a profit of 732,000 Canadian dollars ($591,000).

The manufacturer of high-speed terminals reported revenue of 2.5 million Canadian dollars ($2 million) in the 2005 first quarter, down from revenue of 4.4 million Canadian dollars ($3.6 million) in the first three months of 2004. Sales in the satellite systems unit declined due to delays in receiving contracts and revenue in the microwave business slipped due to price erosion in the market, Norsat said.
