Eumetsat, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, said yesterday that more than 90 European and international scientists met in Locarno, Switzerland earlier this month to contribute ideas for the definition of the next generation of Europe’s geostationary weather satellite missions, dubbed Meteosat Third Generation (MTG). The MTG satellite eventually will replace the current Meteosat Second Generation satellite and will be needed around 2015 to replace the second-generation fleet. Eumetsat did not offer any specific details on what decisions and/or recommendations were made at the meeting.
