Boeing Announces Team Competing For GOES-R Satellite Contract
Boeing said it assembled a team consisting of, Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. and Harris Corp., to bid on the next generation geostationary weather and environmental system for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The next generation system is known as GOES-R, or Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite system. It is an end-to-end system that will provide an uninterrupted flow of environmental data to users and will facilitate meeting NOAA’s goals of understanding and predicting changes in the Earth’s environment and conserving and managing costal and marine resources.
Boeing currently is the prime contractor for the next series of geosynchronous environmental systems (GOES NOP), a program consisting of three imaging spacecrafts and the supporting ground command and control elements.
