Intelsat said it was selected by CBS to carry the high-definition broadcasts of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, commonly referred to as March Madness, which begins March 17. The tournament will be carried over the IA-5 and IA-6 satellites. More than half of the tournament games will be broadcasted in HD.

“Intelsat is a critical provider of services to CBS and flexible enough to support our increased capacity needs for this unique event,” Brent Stranathan, vice president of CBS Broadcast Distribution, said in a prepared statement. “As we expand the number of games we offer in HDTV, it is important to us to have our prime satellite provider be in a position to support these requirements.”
