International Launch Services said the March 11 launch of the Inmarsat 4-F1 satellite onboard an Atlas 5 rocket from Cape Canaveral, FL, was successful. The satellite was the largest payload carried by an Atlas 5 to date, weighing 5,959 kilograms. The launch was the third successful launch for ILS this year.

The satellite, an EADS Astrium Eurostar E3000 model, is the first satellite that will be part of the constellation that will support Inmarsat’s forthcoming Broadband Global Area Network service.
