Telesat said it was selected by the World Broadcasting Union‘s International Satellite Operations Group (WBU-ISOG) as the host site for tests to ensure the global interoperability of codecs used for high definition TV (HDTV) video transmissions. Telesat will work with WBU representatives in partnership with Communications Research Center Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

“The WBU selected Telesat for its exceptional expertise and its enthusiasm,” said Dick Tauber, chair of the WBU-ISOG, in a prepared statement. “We believe that the HDTV codec interoperability testing program is vital to the continued expansion of HDTV worldwide.”
