Viasat Comes to DTT Agreement
Viasat Broadcasting, a subsidiary of the Modern Times Group (MTG), will see three of its channels distributed on Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in Sweden. This is thanks to a three-year agreement between Boxer and Viasat. The three channels ‘TV3’, ‘ZTV’ and ‘TV8’ will be available in Boxer’s pay-TV package in Sweden starting in February. Viasat operates a DTH platform across the Nordic region.
Viasat will provide the channels under the terms of a mini-pay agreement, whereby Boxer will pay Viasat for the inclusion of the channels in the Boxer basic pay-TV offering at no extra cost to viewers.
The competition in Sweden is intense with DTT, cable and two satellite pay-TV operators, Viasat and Canal Digital. The deal with Boxer was hailed by MTG CEO Hans-Holger Albrecht who commented, “This agreement secures a long-term solution for the distribution of our advertising supported channels in the digital terrestrial network in Sweden. Our market-leading entertainment channels are now available via satellite, cable, the digital terrestrial network and broadband, in line with our strategy to make the Viasat advertising supported channels as broadly available as possible.”
