Russian News and Information Agency Novosti reported Jan. 20 that a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle carried a Kosmos-2414 series military spacecraft and a Moscow State University satellite into orbit from the cosmodrome in Plesetsk, Russia. The news report cites Russian Space Forces official as saying contact has been established with both satellites. The university satellite will provide communications between the various campuses of the university and facilitate distance learning applications. The mission of the military satellite was not revealed.
