Navteq today announced that it has been selected by Sirius Satellite Radio to provide it with real-time traffic information. The new service offered by Sirius will provide consumers with regularly updated traffic information, including accident, scheduled road closures and other conditions affecting the flow of traffic. The information will be integrated into a new in-car navigation systems combining route guidance and mapping applications with traffic data.

“This new data service will compliment Sirius’ First Traffic audio service by providing a visual representation of current traffic conditions,” Jim Meyer, president of operations and sales for Sirius, said in a prepared statement. “Over time, additional features will be added to help determine estimated drive times on a given route, based on historical traffic patterns.”
