Swe-Dish Satellite Systems said it has been awarded a $20 million frame contract from the U.S. Defense Department for mobile satellite communications equipment and support services. According to the company, the equipment will be used for transmission of video, data and voice content from remote or temporary established sites anywhere in the world. Swe-Dish said it was selected among other equipment manufacturers for the contract, but did not name who or how many other companies were competing for the contract. The company said a first order of $2.5 million already has been placed.
