Satellite Companies Do Their Parts For Hurricane Cleanup

Following the devastating effects of Hurricane Charley late last week, at least two satellite companies have stepped up to help in the aftermath. Globecomm Systems Inc. [GCOM] has provided satellite connectivity and call-center restoring services to Agility Recovery Solutions to support the recovery effort. The two companies were able to provide a complete portable communications facility with satellite connectivity to Globecomm’s Long Island, N.Y., teleport. The network will be used to support 50 phone lines and 1.5 megabits of Internet connectivity.

And DigitalGlobe supplied high-resolution satellite imagery of the Florida Gulf Coast both before and after the arrival of Charley. DigitalGlobe said the imagery will help federal and local government agencies assess the damage Charley left in its wake.
