Starting today, Verizon Communications [VZ] customers will have the option to drop their local cable television service in favor of DirecTV direct-to- home satellite television service. Verizon said customers choosing to bundle local and long-distance telephone service, Internet access and DirecTV service will save as much as $370 per year compared to purchasing the same or comparable services on an individual basis.
