Siemens Mobile, an Atlanta, Georgia-based wireless company, signed a contract with PetroCom to provide base station equipment that links satellites and transmits voice and data using GSM/GPRS/EDGE technology. PetroCom will be able to provide coverage of oil platforms and ships in the open sea up to 180 miles offshore. Siemens was selected to assist PetroCom, in part, based on its successful track record in serving the satellite and wireless industries, company officials said. Financial terms were not disclosed.
