Hughes Network Systems, a business unit of The DirecTV Group Inc. [DTV], announced today that pan-African satellite Internet access provider Accelon has selected Hughes’ DirecWay to provide satellite broadband connectivity for data, Internet access, and voice-over-IP (VoIP) services for business, government and residential customers. Hughes said that a DirecWay network operations center in Nigeria is already in operation and added that it will have remote satellite terminals delivered in time for Accelon’s scheduled second quarter launch of its services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
