Hughes Network Systems Europe signed a contract with Telefonica de Espana to further expand its DirecWay satellite service. The agreement adds VoIP service to the existing Telefonica DirecWay network. Also, as part of the agreement, HNS Europe will supply as many as 15,000 DW6000 broadband terminals enabled with the DW6040 voice appliance. Telefonica is implementing the VoIP solution to replace the existing obsolete rural telephony network.
