By Staff Writer | November 3, 2003

DirecTV, the satellite TV unit of Hughes Electronics [NYSE: GMH], has purchased ILS‘ MaxView network control software for use in monitoring equipment at DirecTV’s new local channels uplink facilities.

DirecTV offers local channels in 64 metropolitan TV markets. DirecTV is building new uplink facilities and plans to expand that list to 105 local channel markets, representing approximately 85 percent of the country by early next year.

At the new uplink facilities in Winchester, Va., and Oakdale, Minn., and at the Castle Rock Broadcast Center in Colorado, DirecTV will use MaxView to monitor and control its new uplink RF chains, uplink antenna systems and uplink signal monitor systems.
