Orbital Sciences [NYSE: ORB], a Dulles, Va.- based satellite company, received a contract worth $8.4 million to supply its satellite-based ORBCAD communications and dispatch software system for the San Diego public transportation system. Prime contractor Motorola [NYSE: MOT] awarded the contract to Orbital, which will supply and install in-vehicle components and control center software for the San Diego Metropolitan Transit Developmental Board‘s (MTDB) new Regional Transit Management System (RTMS). Orbital’s system offers computer-assisted dispatch capabilities, vehicle tracking via the Global Positioning System (GPS), wireless data communications, and automated vehicle location map and data displays.
