BSkyB Inks European Rugby Rights Contract

      Pay-TV satellite broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB)has won the exclusive rights to broadcast the Rugby Union‘s Heineken Cup across the United Kingdom. Financial terms of the three-year agreement weren’t disclosed. The deal will give Sky Sports live coverage of the Heineken Cup and Parker Pen Challenge Cup through the 2005-06 season.

      This year’s Heineken Cup begins in December, and Sky Sports said it will broadcast live at least three ties each weekend of the tournament, and both semifinals as well as the final. The division also said it will cover the final and two semifinals from the Parker Pen Challenge Cup.
