Proxim, Hughes Ink Wi-Fi Deal

Proxim Corp., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based wireless network equipment provider, and Hughes Network Systems have signed an agreement for Proxim to provide its ORiNOCO access points to Hughes. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Under the agreement, each Wi-Fi hotspot provided by the companies will include at least one Proxim access point integrated with an HNS-manufactured, two-way broadband satellite terminal, which provides high-speed Internet access using the DirecWay service. Germantown, Md.-based Hughes said it is offering its fully managed solution to wireless Internet service providers and other value-added resellers interested in expanding public Wi-Fi Internet access.
